Finding Passport Hours

At the US Dept of State website, you can enter your zipcode to get a list of post offices at which you can apply for a passport. A lot of the information there is useful, but some of it is just plain wrong. For example, the hours for my post office are listed for today (Thursday) as 9am - 3pm, but I just called them and they said 11am - maybe 2pm. They're not sure when they'll close.

I started this blog because I think the US department of state is using the crappy government financial situation as cover for making it harder for people to get passports and leave. We are tax cattle, but they can't just put up an electric fence because the political backlash would hurt them too much. So they use smoke and mirrors.

So use the website linked above to find the phone number for your zipcode, and call them so you don't get tricked into being frustrated by the bad information about hours of operation.

I called my post office yesterday to nail down the hours for today, and they said I'd have to call back today to get those hours, and that I'd have to wait til they open to call. They told me these things only because I asked. They are government employees, after all, so their superiors actually have negative incentive to serve us well. How so? I'll cover that in another post once a few people remind of the promise I'm making in this sentence.
